Joyce Hobby Stevens Engle, age 83, of Naples, Florida passed away on October 3, 2011. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Eugene Stevens, her parents Maureen and Clyde Redding Hobby, her brother Clyde Redding Hobby, Jr. and his wife Myrtis Hobby, sister-in-law Jane Hobby, and brother-in-law W. Buice Wallace.
She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Engle. Also surviving are her three sons and their families, Richard David Stevens, his wife Sheila and their children Austin and Camie of Suwanee, GA; William Frank Stevens, his wife Jamie and their children Cody, and Bridgett and Dan Paris, of Grayson, GA; Stanley Royce Stevens and his daughter Samantha, of Atlanta, GA. Surviving also are a twin brother, Dr. Royce Hobby and his wife Priscilla of St. Petersburg, FL, a sister JoAnn Wallace of Buford, GA, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Joyce Engle was born in Turner County, Georgia on March 2, 1928. She graduated from Ashburn High School in 1945, and Mercer University, Macon, Georgia in 1949. While at Mercer, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
Joyce married Walter Stevens on June 29, 1949 and lived in Newnan, Georgia where she taught school. After returning to Ashburn for a short while, her family moved to Tallahassee, Florida, and there she became a realtor. Tallahassee is where her children spent their childhood. In 1972, Joyce and her family moved to Buford, GA to become associated with N.W. Buice & Company, where she was the manager for 14 years.
As a testimony of her Christian faith, Joyce was an active member of the First Baptist Church in every community where she lived.
Joyce was an avid golfer and among her other hobbies were gardening, needlework, reading and bridge.
After the death of her husband, Walter Stevens, she moved to Naples Florida in 1986. In June of 2002, Joyce married Robert Engle of Naples. She was a member of Wynedemere Country Club of Naples, Florida.
There will be a graveside service in Ashburn Georgia at Rose Hill Cemetery on October 17, 2011 at 1:00 pm. There will also be a memorial service at The First Baptist Church on Orange Blossom Avenue in Naples Florida on October 28, 2011 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to your charity of choice.
