James S. "Rody" Watson

Funeral services for James S. “Rody” Watson, 78 , will be held Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at New Prospect United Freewill Baptist Church with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mr. Watson died Friday at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Watson was born in Ashburn, Ga. and was the son of the late James E. and Annie E. Shepherd Watson. He was a member of the New Prospect Freewill Baptist Church and was a self-employed contractor. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing.

Mr. Watson is survived by his wife, Gloria Goff Watson, Ashburn, Ga.; three sons, Wendell Watson, South Carolina, Gene Avera, Birmingham, Alabama, and James Scott Watson, Cordele, Ga. He is also survived by three daughters, Karen Watson, Americus, Ga., Tresa Barfield, Ashburn, Ga., and Dawn Watson of Alabama. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and two sisters, Mary Powell, Sylvester, Ga. and Sally Watson, Tifton, Ga.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel.
