Funeral services for Mr. Leonard Newton Cook, 89, of Fitzgerald, GA will be held 2:00 PM,Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn. Interment will follow at 4:00 PM in The Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Tift Co., GA. Mr. Cook passed away Sunday at his residence after an extended illness.

The son of the late Leonard and Sallie Mae Edwards Cook he was born in Worth Co., GA and was a retired carpenter. Mr. Cook was a member of The 1st United Penacostal Church and had served his country in The U. S. Navy during WW II on the USS Canfield. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, and his children, George Leonard Cook, William Joseph Cook and Anna Marie Cook. Also his brothers, Leonard Benjamin Cook, Lance Cook and Cecil Cook and a sister, Erma Duncan Hunter.

Survivors include his children, Raymond Cook of Corona, CA, Cindy Weaver and Esther Nell Fold both of Fitzgerald, GA and Martha Ann Weldon of Quitman, GA. Also surviving are his ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. His brother Gene Burlaw Cook of Montgomery, AL and his sisters, Lillian Duncan McBride of Fitzgerald, GA; Minnie L. Cook Boozer and Beatrice Cook Mitchell both of Medfield, OR.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 PM until the hour of services at Perry Funeral Chapel.
