M.J. "Shorty" Williford, Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. M. J. “Shorty” Williford, Sr., 80, of Ashburn will be held Sunday at 2:30 P. M. at the Bethel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Williford died February 20, 2013 at his residence after a sudden illness.

Mr. Williford was born in Arabi, GA and was the son of the late Benjamin G. and Kate Newsome Williford. He was a retired farmer and retired gin manager of Sconyers Gin in Sycamore, GA. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Stephens Williford, Ashburn; his children, Mark (Ramona) Williford, Jack (Trini) Williford, both of Sycamore, Doug Williford, New York, N.Y. and Suanne (William) Loper, Ashburn, GA. He is also survived by his brother and sisters, A. Buford Williford, Virginia W. Wilkerson both of Rebecca, and Dorothy W. Jackson, Cordele. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P.M. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
