William Henry Britt, Sr.

Funeral services for William Henry Britt, Sr., 90, will be held Friday, June 7, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethel Baptist Church, Sycamore, GA with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Revs. Kenneth Kicklighter and Wynton Lee will officiate. Mr. Britt passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 in Tifton, GA.

Mr. Britt was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Turner County, where he resided most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arver R. and Ada Britt; his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth, his beloved granddaughter, Lisa Britt Snow and three sisters and a niece, Mattie Priest, Minnie Bryant, Fostene Townsend and Hazel Summersill. He was, as he was so often known to say, “Just an old South Georgia farmer.” But he was one of the best! He taught not only his children and grandchildren about farming, but many of the young people in Turner County. He also taught them to hunt and fish, to value the land, to love their family and community, and to be faithful to their Country and their God. Outdoors was where he felt most comfortable and he was never happier than when he had good Georgia dirt under his nails. He was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Cameron Britt, Damon Britt, Drew Britt, Jay Durden, Jesse Snow and Will Sheffield. Honorary pallbearers will be Cora Jane Britt, Ted Chapman, Tom Sheffield, James Snow, David Durden and Austin Britt.

Mr. Britt is survived by his children, Monroe and Christy Britt, of Townsend, GA, David and Debbie Britt, of Valdese, NC, Shorty and Sue Britt, of Tifton, Billy Britt, of Ashburn, GA and Susan Britt and close family friend Susan Frazer, of Rock Hill, SC. Also surviving are two sisters, Estene Blanchard of Sycamore, GA and Christine Ryles of Wetumpka, AL; one brother, Lloyd Britt of Warner Robbins, GA; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-child.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn. Visitors will be received at the home of Shorty and Sue Britt, 2811 Lullwater Road in Tifton, GA prior to visitation.
