Funeral Service for Dr. John H. Lloyd, Jr. age 79, of Kosciusko, Mississippi will be held Monday at 11:00 A. M. At Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn with burial to follow in the Snowridge Cemetery. Dr. Lloyd died July 4, 2013 at MS State Veterans Home in Kosciusko after an extended illness.
Dr. Lloyd was born Dodge County, GA and grew up in Turner County, GA. He was the son of the late John Henry and Margaret Evelyn Hamilton Lloyd, Sr. He was a member of the Protestant Faith. He was a veteran of U. S. Army, having served in the Signal Corps at Fort Gordon, Augusta, GA. He earned his PHD in Education Leadership from Georgia State University and was retired Deputy Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Technical & Adult Education.
Rising from a sharecropper’s son in Turner County, GA to one of the most highly respected educators in postsecondary vocational technical education in the state of Georgia. Dr. Lloyd earned the respect of Georgians at all levels of life. He helped train thousands of Georgians and thus assisted the state’s economy.
Survivors include his wife Jeanette Furr Lloyd of Kosciusko, MS and his children Anne (Paul) Eckler, Fisherville, KY, and John Hamilton (Karen) Lloyd, Cadiz, KY. And his brothers Raymond C. Lloyd, Sycamore, GA and Lowell Lloyd, Toole, Utah. And his sister Mildred “Millie” McNair, Sycamore, GA and four grandchildren and two great-Grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from six until eight at Perry Funeral Chapel.
