Herbert Roger Ireland

Funeral Services for Herbert Roger Ireland, 91, of Ashburn, Ga will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 19, 2015, at Harmony Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Harmony Cemetery in Turner County. Mr. Ireland passed away Friday, January 16, 2015, at Tift Regional Hospital.

The son of the late Herbert Greenberry and Eva Lea Benford Ireland, he was born in Lowndes County, Ga. on August 6, 1923. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was one of the last six World War II veterans in Turner County, Ga. Mr. Ireland was a retired farmer. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Turner Co.

Survivors include his wife Cortez Pate Ireland of Ashburn, Ga., three daughters Jean (Rodney) Allen of Blue Ridge, Ga., Joyce (Doyle) Medders of Sylvester, Ga., and Connie (Bill) Singleton of Andalusia, Al., one brother Mr. Harrell (Betty Jo) Ireland of Arnoldsville, Ga, four sisters Helen Hancock of Tifton, Ga., Bonnie Faye McCaffery of Thomasville, Ga., Hazel (Sandy) Childs of Valley, Al., Dorothy (Bussey) Coker of Sycamore, Ga., six grandchildren Matthew (Jessica) Allen, John (Alissa) Allen, Wendy (Mike) Wade, Lee (Mandy) Medders, Stephanie (Levi) Fletcher, Stacey (Ramon) Dobbs and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening, January 18, 2015 from four until six at the Perry Funeral Chapel.
