Lester Adkison, 82, Rebecca, Georgia, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Tift Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
Born in Ben Hill County to the late Elbert Jesse and Alice Lee Swain Adkison, Lester was a retired farmer, rural mail carrier and Irwin EMC Director. He was also a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Adkison was a former commissioner for Turner County, and was a member of the Shriner Hasan Temple and was a Mason with the Sycamore Lodge 210 F&AM.
Mr. Adkison is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Wilson Adkison of Rebecca, Georgia; son, Marion (Celi) Adkison of Rebecca, Georgia; brother, Milton Adkison of Putney, Georgia and Hansel (Emogene) Adkison of Albany, Georgia; sister, Jessie Lee (Loyd) Waldon of Bessemer, Alabama and Hazel McElmurray of Ashburn, Georgia; grandchildren, Misty (Jacob) Brooks of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Mindy (David) Layfield of Rebecca, Georgia, Amanda (Marcus) Adkison of Pineville, Louisiana, Lacey (Josh) Harris of Ashburn, Georgia and Deidra Hall of Eastman, Georgia; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Bobby Jean Adkison and a son, Allen Arthur Adkison and a brother Joe Adkison.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rebecca, Georgia with interment to follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
