Mary Alice Avery

Graveside funeral services for Mary Alice Avery, age 74, of Sycamore, Ga. will be held Friday, April 8, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in Bethel Cemetery. Mrs. Avery died Wednesday at Tift Health Care following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Avery was born in Crisp County, Georgia and had resided in Turner County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Warren L. and Bessie Ann Haynie Story. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and was the retired store manager of Southgate 5 & 10 Store in Ashburn. She was preceded in death by her husbands Thomas V. McGuire, Jr. in 1959 and George B. Avery in 1987. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter in 1948 and one brother, Dan Story in 1997.

She is survived by her daughter & son in law, Diane & Allen Pitts, grandsons, Glen & Michelle Pitts and James Allen Pitts, and great grandchildren Jenna & Dusti Pitts all of Sycamore, Ga. Also surviving are brothers, Warren L. Story, Jr., Griffin, Ga., James Roy Story, Sycamore, Ga., Johnnie G. Story, Hopkinsville, Ky., and sisters JoAnn Oliver and Dorothy Coker both of Sycamore, Ga.
