Mary Bell Newell Byrd

Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary Bell Newell Byrd, 94 of Sylvester, Ga. will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at the Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn. Interment will follow in the New Providence Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Worth Co. Mrs. Byrd passed away Saturday at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born in Worth Co. to Joseph B. and Mary McDonald Newell and had resided in Sylvester for the last thirty five years. She was a member of the New Providence Freewill Baptist Church in Worth Co. and was the widow of Henry Edward Byrd. She was also preceded in death by a son, Willie B. Byrd in 1997 and a daughter Ida B. Bradshaw in 1996. A homemaker, she loved her hobby of fishing, working in her yards, dancing, music, cooking for her family and helping raise her grandson William Lee Byrd.

Survivors include her children, Henry L. Byrd and Lula Bell Byrd both of Sylvester. A brother George A. Newell of Ashburn; Eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 till 8 at Perry Funeral Chapel.
