George A. Newell

Funeral Services for Mr. George A. Newell, 91, of Ashburn, Ga. will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005 at the Perry Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Newell passed away Saturday at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Newell was born in Worth Co., Ga. to Joseph Bryan and Mary McDonald Newell and had resided in Ashburn since the fall of 1955. A retired farmer he was a member of the Freewill Baptist Faith. Mr. Newell and his family sang gospel music over the Cordele radio station for several years. He loved to play his fiddle and watch music videos and DVDs. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Emma Lou Brown Newell who passed away Oct. 20, 1999 and a sister, Mary Bell Byrd.

Survivors include his children, J. B. Newell, Sr., James E. Newell and Everlina N. Mauldin all of Ashburn; Eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from seven until nine at Perry Funeral Chapel.
