Jerry D. Shipman, 73, of Cordele, formerly of Ashburn, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Pine Hill Nursing Center in Byromville.
He was born on December 19, 1943 to the late Deward H. and Odell Culpepper Shipman. He served his country with honor in The United States Navy. He enjoyed telling stories of his time in the Navy especially ones involving his good friend and ship-mate, known as "Emerly". He retired from Heilig-Myers Furniture where he was a truck driver. He was an avid motorcycle rider and loved Harley-Davidson. After he retired he lived in Ashburn and worked at Bad Times Pawn Shop. Jerry was also a member of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his daughters, Danielle (Charles) Yawn of Cordele and Tiffany (Larry) Bourne of Milton; sister, Karen (Grady) Mathis of Cordele; grandchildren, Carley Yawn of Cordele, Patrick Bourne of Milton , Anna Bourne of Milton and Ryan Bourne of Milton; niece, Becky Crissman of Cordele; nephews, Brian (Donna) Crissman of Cordele and David (Suzi) Mathis of Ashburn; great-niece, Megan Crissman of Cordele; great-nephews, Chris Cole of Cordele, Liam Mathis of Ashburn and Pax Mathis of Ashburn; aunt, Willene Beard of Ashburn.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Perry Funeral Chapel at 11:00 AM. Private interment will be held at Red Oak Cemetery in Worth County.
