Funeral services for Dr. W. Jim Britt, 70, of Sycamore, GA will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, July 6, 2018 in The Ashburn First Baptist Church. Dr. Britt entered into Heaven Tuesday at his residence following an extended illness. Interment will be private.
The son of the late Willie Clark and Thelma Estelle Roberts Britt was born in Tifton, GA. He was a member of The Ashburn First Baptist Church.
Dr. W. Jim Britt began preaching at the age of fourteen, and was an effective pastor, author, evangelist, Bible teacher, and missionary for over fifty years. He was founder and president of W. Jim Britt Ministries, Inc., an international organization whose ministry has extended into over fifty countries around the world.
He was Chancellor of The International Bible Institute, and adjunct professor of Biblical Studies and Pastoral Ministries at Trinity Seminary. He was a "full member" of the Evangelical Theological Society, a professional society of biblical scholars involved in evangelical scholarship worldwide. He was the author of four books, and numerous religious and educational publications.
Dr. Britt was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University (BS.Ed.), New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and held doctorates from Luther Rice Seminary (D.Min.), and Trinity Seminary / Canterbury (England) Christ Church University (Ph. D.)
Dr. Britt taught seminary classes and started The International Bible Institute . He also pastored churches in Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Busbin Britt of Sycamore; his children, Christopher Britt of Huntsville, AL, Blake Britt of Clayton, GA and Heather Britt of Sycamore; Nine grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Peggy Reed of Ashburn and Wilda Boyette of Highlands, NC.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from Six until Eight at Perry Funeral Chapel.
