Roy D.Herrin, 85, of Ashburn passed away Monday, September 23, 2019 at Crisp Regional Hospital in Cordele.

Roy was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana on December 30, 1933. Roy served his country with honor and retired from the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps he received several awards and commendations including: combat action, Good Conduct Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and the National Defense Medal. After his retirement from the United States Marine Corps, Roy moved to Ashburn where he spent the next 47 years of his life. Upon moving to Ashburn he began working with M & W Sportswear and retired from there several years later. Roy was a family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening. Roy was also a member of Morningside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Toshi (Betty) Herrin of Ashburn; daughter, Joann (Ray) Adam of Ty Ty; son, Monroe (Debbie) Herrin of Sycamore; sister, Rosie (Zeke) Horton of Centreville, Alabama; step-sister, Ella Ruth Herrin of Quitman; grandchildren, Diana (Ryan) Wilkerson of Chula, Jeremy (Bailey) Herrin of Reynolds, Greg (Payton) Vaughan of Ty Ty, Toshi Vaughan of Tifton, Chris Vaughan of Tifton, Doug (Crystal) Jackson of Ty Ty and David Adam of Ty Ty; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Wilkerson, Harlee Wilkerson Kollins Wilkerson, Ryder Vaughan, Reed Vaughan, Ross Allen Vaughan, Ayumi Wallace, Douglas Jackson, Tyler Jackson, Hanna Jackson, Anthony Jackson, Emily Jackson, Micheal Jackson, Chris Vaughn, Alex Vaughn, MaryAnn Adam and Cody Adam.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Gabe Vaughn.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Am Friday September 27, 2019 at Morningside Baptist Church with interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday at the church.
