Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” L. Lumpkin, 79, of Ashburn passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Pruitt Health Care following an extended illness. Private graveside services will be held. As this nation is facing the current health crisis, it has been requested that everyone honor the guidelines set by the Center For Disease Control and the GA State Health Dept. A public Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Dot will be held at a later date which will be announced as soon as possible.
The daughter of the late Clinton Felder and Ina Mae Phagan Lamb, she was born and lived her entire life in Turner County. She was one of the members of the first graduating class of the newly combined Turner County High School in 1958. Mrs. Dot was a faithful member of the Harmony Baptist Church and served as the pianist for 45 plus years. She taught many children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Always with a smile on her face, she was a lady who never met a stranger. She was a 30 year retiree from the banking business having worked at The Colony Bank in Ashburn, formally known as the Ashburn Bank. She was one of the charter employees at Community National Bank, now known as South GA Bank.
Mrs. Dot enjoyed her retirement years meeting and greeting local people and tourists at Carroll’s Sausage while serving sausage samples along with baking teacakes using her mother’s recipe. Dot enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, working in her yard, cooking for others, singing gospel music and attending southern gospel sings.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. W. “Jake” Lumpkin, Sr. and her infant son, Jim W. Lumpkin, Jr.
Survivors include her children, Jim (Leann) Lumpkin of Sycamore and Debbie (Martin) Young of Tifton and her precious granddaughter, Audrey Young of Tifton. She is also survived by her brother, Doyle (Sylvia) Lamb of Ashburn and several nieces and nephews.
For those who wish, flower orders will be accepted to be received at the Celebration of Life Memorial Service which will be held at a later date.
