Betty Jo Higgins Greene, 89, of Ashburn passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020 at her residence.

Betty Jo was born on July 21, 1931 in Ripley, Tennessee to the late John Allen and Hazel McDonald Higgins. She was a retired teacher with the Turner County Board of Education. After graduating from high school Betty Jo attended Memphis State. She finished her education by earning a Bachelor's Degree from Valdosta State University and her Master's in Education Degree from Georgia Southwestern. Betty Jo was a member of the Ben Hill Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the American Revolution. As a member of the Ashburn First United Methodist Church she was children's a Sunday School teacher and former President of the United Methodist Women. She was also a former district officer for the United Methodist Women. She was a very ambitious person that will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynn G. Christian of Ashburn and Shirley (Bill) Cohn of Dallas, Texas; son, John (Mary Catherine) Greene of Grayson; grandchildren, Brad Christian of Ashburn, Blake Christian of Ashburn, Lindsey (Justin) Kurklander of Tallahassee, Florida, Adam Greene of Tallahassee, Florida; Allison Greene of Grayson, Austin (Alyssa) Greene of Tucson, Arizona and Will Cohn of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchild, Jake Ryan Kurklander. Betty Jo was also looking forward to the birth of her second great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 1/2 years Julian (Jack) Cicero Greene.

While flowers will be accepted, for those that wish to do so, please make donations to the Ashburn First United Methodist Church or Regency Southcare Hospice.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 PM Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Rose Hill Cemetery. For those who wish to sign the family's guest register and pay their respects, Betty Jo Greene will lie in state from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Monday, August 24, 2020 at Perry Funeral Chapel.

The family would like to thank Melody Ward for her serving as caregiver to their mother over the past three months.
