John Laster Purswell

Funeral services for Mr. John Laster Purswell, 89, of Rebecca, Ga. will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at the Rebecca Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Rebecca. Mr. Purswell passed away Monday at his residence following an extended illness.

The son of the late Joe and Lizza Ann Melinda Etheridge Purswell he was born in Barbour Co., AL. and had resided in Turner Co. since 1952. He was a WW II veteran having served in the U. S. Navy and was a retired grocery store owner having the only grocery store in Rebecca. He was active in all Rebecca Churches. He is a former Mayor and is a member of the city council of Rebecca. He was preceded in death by his first wife Katie Marie Edwards Purswell and his second wife Margaret Lee Young Purswell and a daughter Nancy P. Tyner.

Survivors include his grandchildren, John Edward and Sharon Tyner of Canton, GA.; Jeanea Lee T. and Mike Windham of Madison, GA.; a son-in-law James Carlton Tyner of Conyers, GA., a sister-in-law, Col. Sara Edwards of Birmingham, AL.; a brother-in-law Col. Samuel Burney, Sr. of Valley, AL.; his great-grandchildren, Josh Underwood, Cal Tyner and Will Tyner all of Canton, GA.; Katie Marie Windham and Keeli Windham both of Madison, GA.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from six till eight at Perry Funeral Chapel.
