Sara Louisa Jackson Johnson age 97 passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at Scott Health and Rehab.
She was born on November 16, 1923 to Carl Earl Jackson and Maggie Alma Lake Jackson. Her birthplace, Route 2, Dublin, Georgia was the same house where her father and her 5 brothers and 4 sisters were born. She was the 6th of 10 children. Sara was named for her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Louisa Stokes Lake, with whom she shared a November 16 birthdate, and her paternal grandmother, Sara Ann Elizabeth Jones Jackson. She attended Dublin High School, graduating from Brewton High School. She also graduated with a degree in Christian Education from Asbury College (University) in Wilmore, Kentucky. For a number of years she served as Director of Christian Education at Robert McIntyre Methodist Church in Savannah, Georgia. While pursuing a Master’s Degree at Emory University, she met the love of her life, George Seaborne Johnson. They married on July 15, 1962 at Boiling Springs Methodist Church. She worked with her husband and father-in-law at the John S. Johnson Insurance Agency, Inc. in Ashburn, Georgia until her retirement. She and George enjoyed a wonderful life together for 39 years until his death in 2002. She was a faithful and active member of Ashburn United Methodist Church where she taught the Philathea Sunday School Class for over 25 years. After George’s death she was blessed to be cared for by her youngest sister, Margie Chappell, and moved to Dublin, Georgia with her as her health declined. In the final chapter of her life, she was cared for by the wonderful staff of Scott Nursing Home, and her family is especially grateful for the care they gave Sara.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Seaborne Johnson, her parents, Carl and Alma Jackson, her brothers and sisters in law: Embree and Elizabeth Jackson, Edward and Avis Jackson, Lake and Marie Jackson, Paul Jackson, Stokes and Betty Jackson; and her sisters and brothers in law: Travis and Gene Heckle, Jaqueline and Hubert Smith, Julia and Verdi Love.
She is survived by her sister, Margie Chappell of Dublin, her sisters-in-law Jo Jackson of Dublin and Adeline Wilson of Leslie, Georgia, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, September 16, 2021 in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn, Georgia.
