Vera Owen, 107, of Crestview, Florida and former longtime resident of Ashburn, Georgia passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Crestview Rehabilitation Center in Crestview, Florida.
Vera was born on June 14, 1914 in Sycamore to the late James William and Cora-Lee Howard. She was a retired business manager and was a homemaker in her later years. She was an active member of High Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was dedicated to her family, was a very honest lady and loved to work “her arithmetic” even into her 100s. She was a trail blazer in her days and served in leadership and management positions at Jaco Pants Factory and B. E. Walker Pants Factory of Ashburn in the late 1930s through the 1950s. She was very proud of her contributions to local business and always expected the best from herself and others, men and women.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years Sam T. Owen; brothers, Barney Lee Howard, Paris Aldene Howard, Ira Melvin Howard; sister, Evelyn Howard Grant; granddaughter, Melody Wagner. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Owen Eddy of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Jimmy George Owen of Crestview, Florida – Jimmy is an Air Force Veteran who served our nation for 27 years on active duty; sister, Martha Emogene Howard Adkison; grandchildren, Bill Wagner, Jeffrey Wagner, Jack Morris, Lawrence Morris and Cathy Tetreault – all of her grandchildren served our nation honorably in the U.S. Army; she is also survived by several great and great-great grandchildren and many amazing nieces and nephews from several generations.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, October 25, 2021 at Perry Funeral Chapel. Interment will be private. The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until 2:15 PM at the funeral home.
