Sammy Barfield, 84, formerly of Ashburn passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Providence of Sparta in Sparta, Georgia.
Sammy was born on October 22, 1937 in Turner County to the late Benjamin Franklin and Beatrice Nipper Barfield. He was the Parts Manager for Ford Tractor Company for over 40 years. He was an active member of the Ashburn First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was previously a member of Westside Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School and Training Union Director and Church Treasurer. Sammy also enjoyed fishing with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Gussie Barfield of Greensboro; daughter, Trudy (Mike) Rowland of Eatonton; brother, John Barfield of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Steven (Rachel) Rowland and Brian (Morgan) Rowland; great-grandchildren, Trenton Rowland and Harper Rowland.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Benjamin “Frank” Franklin Barfield, Jr., Richard Edward Barfield, Frances Barfield Hilliard, Lanier Taylor “L. T.” Barfield and Susan Barfield Hobby, his twin sister.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Perry Funeral Chapel. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
