John W. "Billy" Head

Funeral services for John W. “Billy” Head, age 83, of Ashburn will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the Ashburn First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Head died Sunday at his sister’s residence in Tifton following an extended illness.

Mr. Head was born in Walton County, Georgia and was the son of the late Alvin and Ruth Ivey Head Wood. He had resided most of his life in Turner County and was a a retired mechanic from Ellis Farm Equipment Company in Ashburn. He was a member of the Ashburn First Baptist Church, Prime Timers, Joyful Messengers, Keen Age Club and the Gilbert Branch Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal P. Head in 2006.

Mr. Head is survived by one daughter, Dell Nipper, Cordele, Ga., Grandson, Blake Manning, Cordele, Ga. and grandchildren Bailey Manning & Libby Manning both of Cordele, Ga. Also surviving are 4 brothers, Ivey Wood, Woodstock, Ga., Melvin Wood, Conyers, Ga. James Wood, Palmetto, Ga.,, Mack Wood, Riverdale, Ga., and two sisters, Daisey Minshew, Rebecca, Ga. and Betty Cleghorn, of Tifton and his devoted caregiver, James Aaron Cleghorn, Conyers, Ga.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00-8:00 P. M. at Perry Funeral Chapel.
