George Jacobs Shingler

Graveside Funeral Services for George Jacobs Shingler, Sr age 82, of Ashburn will be held at 11:00 A. M. Friday at the Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Shingler died Tuesday March 27, 2007 in Thomasville after a brief illness.

Mr. Shingler was a native and lifelong resident of Ashburn the son of the late Herbert I. and Netta Jacobs Shingler. He was a veteran of World War Two serving in the U. S. Army Air-Force and was a member of the Ashburn 1st United Methodist Church and a member of Evans Sunday School Class. He was a Ashburn High School Graduate the class of 1941. He was retired from the Georgia Forestry Commission and served as Forest Ranger in Camilla, Albany and Ashburn. Served as District Forester in McRae, later serving as Purchasing Agent for the Georgia Forestry Commission until his retirement in the late 1970’s. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Herbert I. Shingler, Jr. 1959.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Evelyn, G. Shingler , Ashburn and a son George “Jay” Shingler, Jr. and his wife Harolene Hill Shingler, of Ashburn.

Family will receive friends Thursday evening from Seven until Nine at the Funeral Home.
