Funeral services for Billy J. Shivers, 77, 315 East College Ave., Ashburn will be held Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the Ashburn First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Shivers died Tuesday at his residence following an extended illness.
Shivers was born in Turner County and was the son of the late A.F. Shivers, Sr. and Willie White Shivers. He lived all of his life in Turner County. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the Ashburn First United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Korean Service medal with one Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. He was a member of Sycamore Masonic Lodge, Hasan Shrine Temple and was a former long time member of the Ashburn Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Shivers is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joanne Perry Shivers; two daughters and sons in law, Ruth Ann & Ray Jordan, Kellie & Roger Jones, all of Ashburn. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Matthew Ray Jordan and Maegan Catherine Jones, both of Ashburn; one brother, A.F. “Buddy” Shivers, Jr., Ashburn, and one sister in law, Clara Shivers, Ashburn. He was preceded in death by one brother Carson Shivers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 P.M.
