Betty Spires

Funeral services for Betty Helms Spires, 73, of Ashburn, GA will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, August 19, 2007 in the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Crisp Co., GA. Mrs. Spires passed away Friday at her residence following a lengthy illness.

The daughter of the late Robert and Katie Jewel Hiett Helms, she was born in Irwin Co., GA and had lived in Turner Co. for the past twenty-three years. She was a member of the Hawpond Baptist Church and was a retired textile worker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands, “Virgil” Watson Jenkins, Sr., Bob Field and David Spires; a son James Edward “Eddie” Jenkins, Sr.; her brothers, Adair Helms, Humphrey Helms, Roy Helms, and Howard Helms; a sister Syrelle “Dorothy” Hauesler.

Survivors include her daughters, Katie Black and Phyllis (Glenn) Pate both of Ashburn, GA and a son Virgil Watson “Junior” (Kathy) Jenkins, Jr. of Morrow, GA; Seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Her sisters, Lola Belle Hauesler, Arabi, GA. and Sylvia Killin, SC.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from six until eight at Perry Funeral Chapel.
