James Cecil Adair

Funeral services for James Cecil Adair will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mr. Adair died Thursday at the Ashburn Health Care following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Adair was born February 15, 1912 in Carnesville, Franklin County, Georgia. He was the son of the late James Pascal & Lina Jolly Adair.

Mr. Adair graduated from the University of North Carolina where he played baseball, football, and basketball. He came to Ashburn, Ga. in the early 1930’s as a member of the Ashburn Baseball Club, semi-pro baseball team and played third base. He was a Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Ashburn First United Methodist Church for over 70 years. He was a retired US Postal Service Rural Letter Carrier.

He was a member of the Georgia Rural Letter Carrier Association, Sycamore Masonic Lodge #210 and the Hasan Shrine Temple.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Frances Pittman and Mary Harden and his brother Doyle Adair. He was the widower of the late Dorothy Rogers Adair to whom he was married for 67 years.

Survivors include one sister Mildred Wiley, Estanolle, Ga., Dianne & Ed Bacon who took an active part in his care. Also surviving are his nieces, Mary Adair Mullin, Merritt Island, FL., Dorothy Ray, Gulfport, MS, Janice Cooke, Jacksonville, FL; his nephews, James Ray, Gulfport, MS., Tim Pittman, Commerce, GA, and Bud Wiley, Watkinsville, GA.
