Funeral services for Dr. Rosemary Johnson, 75, of Ashburn, GA will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Dr. Johnson passed away Sunday at her residence following an extended illness.

The daughter of the late Ruby Hill and Margaret Law Johnson she was born in Turner Co. where she lived all of her life. She was a member of the Ashburn First Baptist Church where she was a teacher of the Joy Sunday School Class for a long number of years, served on the finance committee and previously served on the staff search committee. She graduated from Ashburn High School in 1949 and continued her education from 1949 to 1953 at Georgia Southern University where she graduated with her B.S. degree in Secondary Education with majors in English and Math. She also obtained a Masters Degree in Counseling and a Doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Georgia. She was a licensed professional counselor by the State of Georgia and was recognized in the Outstanding Educators of America organization. Dr. Johnson developed ABAC’s first Migrant Student Workshop, Be All You Can Be, which led to extended migrant student education programs. Dr. Johnson retired from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in 1995 after 29 years in teaching and counseling capacities. She served as interim Vice-President and Dean of Students Affairs. Prior to her service at ABAC, Dr. Johnson taught English and Algebra and was a counselor from 1953 to 1966 at Tift County High School, where she was named Star Teacher of the Year. After retirement she represented Turner Co. on the Southwest Region MHDDAD Planning Board for eight years. During that time independent apartments for the mentally challenged in Turner County were named Rosemary’s Terrace in her honor.

Dr. Johnson is survived by a large number of loving and supportive cousins and friends.

Flowers will be accepted or for those who wish please make donations to the Ashburn First Baptist Church or Rosemary Johnson Scholarship Fund at the Ashburn First Baptist Church or Moultrie Tech Endowment Fund in her memory.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at Perry Funeral Chapel.
