Funeral services for Gwinnette “Nette” Houston Smith, 78, of Clements Chapel Road, Ashburn will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mrs. Smith died Sunday at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Smith was born in Crisp County, Georgia and was the daughter of the late W.J. & Ruby Moore Houston. She was a member of the Clements Chapel United Methodist Church for 60 years where she had been a Sunday School teacher. She was a homemaker and had resided in Turner County most of her life. On January 3, 2008 she and Mr. Leion celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband Leion Smith, Ashburn, Ga., one daughter and son in law, Jo Ann & Carl Gorday, Birmingham, Alabama. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Christin Brown and her husband, Justin, Helena, Alabama and Ashley Gorday, Mobile, Alabama. She is also survived by one brother, Fred Houston, Dublin, Ga. and three sisters, Jane Phillips, Jacksonville, FL; Nelle Mathis, Cordele, Ga., and Willene Pearce, Pitts, Ga.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel.
