Funeral services for Rudene Gentry, 75, of Irwinville, Ga. will be held Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 4:00 P.M. at Bethel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Gentry died Tuesday at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Gentry was born in Irwin County, the son of the late Thomas Lee & Carrie Layton Gentry. He was the retired Irwin County School Superintendent. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he was a former Adult Sunday School Teacher and was a former deacon. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an avid gardener, loved woodworking and was a loving grandfather.
Mr. Gentry is survived by his wife, Ida Carr Gentry, Irwinville, Ga.; two sons, Garry Gentry & his wife, Nola, Spring Hill, Tenn.; Tommy Gentry & his wife, Liz, Irwinville, Ga., and his daughter Cheerie Hudson and her husband, Glenn, Irwinville, Ga. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tommy Gentry, Jr., Brian Gentry, Adrienne Gentry, Grant Hudson, and Sam Hudson. Also surviving is one brother, Ronald Gentry, Warner Robins, Ga.; two sisters, Nellie Register, and Hazel Ellington, both of Tifton and one sister-in-law, Bertha Gentry, Irwinville, Ga.
Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Tristam “Trip” Gentry and Kenneth Ted Gentry.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00-8:30 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel, in Ashburn.
