Funeral services for Mabel Shiver Criswell, 98, of Ashburn, GA. will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Criswell passed away Saturday in Griffin following an extended illness.
“Aunt Mabel” as she was so affectionally known was a long time member of the Ashburn First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and choir member for a long number of years. She led the singing at Ashburn Health Care for many years. She was awarded The Exchange Club 1980 Golden Deeds award and The 1996 Primetimers Award. Aunt Mabel had lived in Turner Co. for many years moving to the Griffin area after her health began to fail.
The daughter of the late James S. and Arkie D. Cameron Shiver, she was born in Mitchell Co., GA. and was a retired clerk for Morrison’s Grocery Store in Ashburn. She was the widow of Frank Harold Criswell. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
As Aunt Mabel always thought of other first, she requests that in lieu of flowers; please make donations to The Ashburn First Baptist Church, 302 McLendon St., Ashburn, GA 31714.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews and a large number of friends who she claimed “her family”.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Perry Funeral Chapel in Ashburn.
