Funeral services for James Adams “Jimmy” King, 69, of Rebecca will be held Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the Rebecca Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Rebecca, Ga. Mr. King died Thursday at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Mr. King was born in Cordele, Ga. on August 3, 1938 and was the son of the late James T. “Jim” King and Emma Adams King of Rebecca. He was a lifelong resident of Rebecca.
Jimmy attended school in Turner County and was a graduate of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga., upon graduation he returned to Turner County and joined his father in the family cotton business. In his early twenties, Jimmy was elected Mayor of Rebecca and at the time was one of the youngest Mayors in the state of Georgia. While serving as Mayor, he was instrumental in obtaining the City of Rebecca’s first water system.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Vivian “Bitsy” Bryan King, of Rebecca; his children, Daniel “Dan” Thomas King and his wife Tami of Chula; Louann K. Peeler and her husband, Matt of Carrollton and Kristina Marie King of Alpharetta, Ga. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Ware Bostick and Adams King, both of Chula and Noah, Hannah, Luke, and Hailey Peeler all of Carrollton, Ga. He is also survived by one brother, David King, of Williamsburg, Virginia.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel.
