Josephine Rooks

Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine M. Rooks, 85, of Ashburn, GA. will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 30, 2008 in the Bethel Baptist Church in Turner Co. Mrs. Rooks passed away Saturday at her residence following an extended illness. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The daughter of the late Joel and Callie Spinks Merritt, she was born in Coffee Co., GA and had lived in Turner Co. for over sixty years. She was the widow of Julian Fred Rooks. She was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, Janet Elaine Rooks and Julie Lynn Howard. As a member of the Bethel Baptist Church she was a member of the Lydia Sunday School class. She enjoyed cooking, working with her flowers and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a former employee of the Turner Co. Board of Education, having worked as the manager of the high school lunchroom and was retired from Gold Kist Peanut Co.

Survivors include her children, Joel (Flora) Rooks of Ashburn, GA, Ellen (Delmer) Bullington of Sycamore, GA and Judy (Jerry) West of Tifton, GA. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Perry Funeral Chapel.
