John Walter "Jake" Whiddon

Funeral services for John Walter “Jake” Whiddon, Sr., 72, of Ashburn will be held Thursday, July 24, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Harmony Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Whiddon died Tuesday at his residence.

Mr. Whiddon was born in Turner County and had resided here all of his life. He was the son of the late Harvey E. & Bennie Ruth Nelson Whiddon. He was a retired Supervisor from M&W Sportswear. He was a faithful member of the Harmony Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Golden Circle Sunday School Class.

Mr. Whiddon is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy “Dot” Hancock Whiddon of Ashburn and one son, James (Holly) Whiddon of Ashburn. He was preceded in death by one son, John Walter Whiddon, Jr. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Brandi Whiddon, Cordele, Ga., Michaela Harris and Miranda Harris, both of Ashburn. Also surviving are three sisters, Evelyn W. Mann, Ashburn, Evon W. Brooks, Appling, Ga. and Elaine W. Pritchard, Ashburn. He was preceded in death by one brother, Sheriff Lamar Whiddon.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel.
