Funeral Services for David Charles Rainey, age 78, of 536 Grand St., Ashburn will be held at 2:00 P. M. Monday at the Amboy Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Rainey Cemetery. Mr. Rainey died Friday January 2, 2009 after a long illness.
Mr. Rainey was a native and lifelong resident of Turner County the son of the late Benjamin F. and Selma Mae Cleghorn Rainey. He was a member of the Sovereign Grace Baptist Church and was a former member and president of the Turner County Jaycees and was Jaycee of the Year in 1964. He was an avid gardener widely known for home grown hot peppers and homemade pepper sauce. He was a 1947 Graduate of Rebecca High School. Mr. Rainey served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife Pat L. Rainey, Ashburn one son Ben Rainey, Athens, Ga. and one daughter Mary & her husband Jeff Parker, St. Simons, Ga. and three grandchildren Samual Rainey Parker and Adi Anderson Parker, both of St Simons, and William (Liam) H. Rainey, Athens, Ga. and two sisters Verlon McHugh and Norma Austin both of Ashburn and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother Daniel Rainey and Robert, John and Harry Rainey and two sisters Mae Ashley and Ruby Ware.
Family will receive friends Sunday afternoon January 4, 2009 from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P. M. at the funeral home.
