Funeral services for Charles Sharon Beard, Sr., 79 of Ashburn will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ashburn. Mr. Beard died Saturday at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville , Ga. following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Beard was born in Turner County and was the son of the late William Roscoe & Opal Smith Beard. He retired after 36 years from Georgia Power Company. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Mr. Beard enjoyed working in his yard and woodworking and giving his wood working crafts to family and friends. He loved his family and many friends. Mr. Beard graduated from Tift County High School in 1948.
Mr. Beard is survived by his wife, Willene Culpepper Beard, of Ashburn, two sons, Charlie Beard of Sycamore, and Chad (Amanda) Beard of Ashburn. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cheyanne Downs, Sycamore, Ga., Dylan Beard, Spokane, Washington, Gretchen Johnson, Hiram, Ga., Forrest Beard, Phobe Beard and Collin Beard all of Ashburn, Ga. and one great grandson, Konnor Downs, of Sycamore, Ga. Also surviving are one brother, Floyd Beard and one sister, Marie Marchant, both of Tifton, Ga.
Mr. Beard was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Carlton Beard.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00-9:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel, Ashburn, Ga.
