Everett Prestley

Funeral Services for Retired Sgt. Everett G. Prestley, Sr. age 78 of 4431 Mehaffey Street, Columbus, GA will be held Friday at 3:00 P. M. at Perry Funeral Chapel, 301 McLendon St., Ashburn, GA with burial to follow in the Arabi Cemetery, Arabi, GA with full military honors. Mr. Prestley died Monday September 21, 2009 at his residence after a sudden illness.

A native of Crisp County, Georgia he was the son of the late Oscar Glaton & Nora Bell Hancock Presley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary “Sweetheart” Hauesler, his brothers, Jimmy Presley, Floyd Presley, Hubert Presley and William Presley. He was retired from the U. S. Army serving in the Korea Conflict and The Vietnam War and was retired Chief of Police of Bibb City. He was a member of the Baptist Faith and had been a resident of Columbus since 1959.

Everett was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was a generous, loving person who will be missed by many and was a servant to some and a friend to all.

Survivors include his wife Patricia A. Prestley, Columbus, GA; his son Everett G. (Laura) Prestley, Jr. Columbus, GA; two daughters, Debbie (Larry) Salyer, Seale, AL and Rose Marie Prestley, Columbus, GA; his loving pets, Patches, Alice and Baby Face. His brothers Ronald Presley, Arabi, GA and Royce Presley, Ashburn, GA; his sisters Loretta Wallace, Ashburn, GA, Delia Law, Cobb, GA, Norma Manley, Leesburg, GA, Bernice Goodman, Cordele, GA and Glenda Conley, Tifton, GA and his grandchild Jennifer (Dennie) Wadkins, Seale, AL and a Great-Grandchild Kayla Prestley, Columbus, GA and a large number of loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P.M. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA and Friday from 1:00 P. M. until time of services at Perry Funeral Chapel, Ashburn, GA.
