Funeral services for Mr. W. D. “Bill” Griffith, 77, of Rebecca, GA will be held in the Rebecca Methodist Church, Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Mr. Griffith passed away Friday at his residence following an extended illness. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Rebecca.
The son of the late W. D. and Florence Louise Maddox Griffith, he was born in Crisp Co., GA and was a graduate of Crisp County High School. Mr. Griffith received a Bachelors Degree from the Terry School of Business at UGA. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Bill served his country in the U.S. Air Force before marrying his wife Maria. Throughout his life he loved to travel, he loved adventure and he loved many sports. He enjoyed flying airplanes, skydiving, scuba diving, tennis, racquetball, football, sailing, fishing, boating and hunting. Bill and Maria enjoyed traveling the United States in their motorhome as well as several other countries. Mr. Griffith was a long time resident of North Miami, FL where he was the former owner and operator of Battery Sales, Inc. In 1996 he sold his business and returned to his grandparent’s farm in Rebecca to enjoy his retirement. Bill was a member of the Rebecca Methodist Church, the Flint River Boat Club and a charter member of The Rebecca Hardworkers Coffee Club. He truly enjoyed is last 13 years here in Rebecca, GA
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Maria R. Griffith, Rebecca, GA., his children, William D. (Victoria) Griffith, Dawsonville, GA, Cristina G. (Gary) Willis, Dawsonville, GA, Chad Anthony (Stephanie) Griffith, Acworth, GA, and Jason Frank (Sarah) Griffith, St. Cloud, FL. His grandchildren, Alexandra Willis, Dawsonville, GA, Kacey Willis, Dawsonville, GA, William Griffith, Acworth, GA, Jaxson Griffith, St. Cloud, FL, Samantha Griffith, St. Cloud, FL and Shane Griffith, Acworth, GA. Mr. Griffith is also survived by his sister, Anita Griffith (Thomas) Oliver, Fernandina Beach, FL.
The family will receive friends at Perry Funeral Chapel from six until eight on Monday, December 7.
