John Ronald West

Funeral services for John Ronald West, 79, of Ashburn will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Ashburn First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mr. West died Saturday at Tift Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mr West was born in Turner County, Georgia and was the son of the late John Raymond and Fannie Mae Bearden West. He served in the U.S. Navy and was the retired owner & operator of West Brothers Grocery Store in Ashburn. He was a member of the Ashburn First Baptist Church.

Mr. West loved hunting, gardening, and car racing. He was a former board member of the Ashburn Housing Authority.

Mr. West is survived by his wife, Jo Pirtle West, Ashburn, Ga.; son and daughter in law, Russell & Pam West and his daughter and son in law, Rhonda & Doug Carter all of Ashburn, Ga. He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister Bivian Haggerty, Akin S.C. Mr. West was preceded in death by two brothers, William Terry West and Raymond West and two sisters, Jimmie Johnson and Edna West.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel.
