Vera Mae Welch Murphy

Funeral services for Vera Mae Welch Murphy, 75, of Sycamore, Georgia will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at High Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mrs. Murphy died Tuesday in Golden Living Center in Tifton following an extended illness.

Mrs. Murphy was born in Enigma, Georgia and was the daughter of the late Jessie and Nancy Sweat Welch. She was a member of the High Hill Baptist Church and was retired from M. & W. Sportswear.

She is survived by her husband, Lewis S. Murphy, of Sycamore, Ga., one son and his wife, Shiron & Donna Murphy of Leesburg, Ga. and one daughter and her husband, Debbie & Winfred Dowdy of Sycamore, Ga. Also surviving are her grandchildren , April & Stacy Lasseter, Sycamore, Ga., Brooke Garland, Sycamore, Ga., Shea & Jimmy May, Leesburg, Ga., Amy & Raymond Poore, Ashburn, Ga., Wendy Coney, Tifton, Jr. Dowdy, Sycamore, Ga. and three great grandchildren, Ragen Lasseter and Murphy Lasseter, both of Sycamore, Ga. and Walker May of Leesburg, Ga. She is also survived by one brother, John Tucker, Gainesville, Florida, and five sisters, Zelma Taylor, of Ashburn, Ga., Delarce Sheral, Lakeland, FL., Betty Ann Troup, Enigma, Ga., Carolyn Ray, Enigma, Ga., & Marie Ethridge, Tifton, Ga., and a special niece, Kim Taylor Swanson of Ashburn, Ga., and several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Chapel.
