James Floyd Nelson, Sr.

Funeral services for James F. Nelson, Sr., 80, of Ashburn will be held Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at Harmony Baptist Church with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn. Mr. Nelson died Thursday at Sylvester Health Care in Sylvester, Ga. following an extended illness.

Mr. Nelson was born in Tift County, Georgia and was the son of the late John N. and Florence Mae Stevens Nelson. He had lived most of his life in Turner County and was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church where he was an inactive deacon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served on the ASCS Board for several years. He was named the Turner County Chamber of Commerce Farm Family of the Year and received the Exchange Club Golden Deeds Award.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Young Nelson, Ashburn, Ga.; his son and daughter in law, James Floyd Nelson, Jr. and Robin, Pavo, Ga., three sisters Gertrude Jones, Ashburn, Ga., Mary Hartman, Jacksonville, Florida; and Virginia Venable, Fairhope, Alabama. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Hunter, Hayes and Hope Nelson all of Pavo, Ga.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00-8:00 P. M. at Perry Funeral Chapel.
