Homegoing services for Evelyn Bagwell Barker, 85, of Ashburn, GA will be held Sunday, February 27, 2011, at 3:00 PM in the Ashburn First Baptist Church. Mrs. Barker passed away Friday at Tift Regional Hospital following a sudden illness. Interment will follow in The Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn.
Mrs. Barker was born in Gainesville, GA and had lived in Turner County for over fifty years. She was a retired business woman having owned and operated Barker Hardware for many years in Ashburn and was a peanut buying point and procurement manager. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harold Barker, SR and a son, Robert H. “Bobby” Barker, JR.
As a faithful and longtime member of The Ashburn First Baptist Church, she was the President of Samaritan Sunday School Class and served on many committees at the church. She was also a former Sunday school teacher. She was serving as president of The Primetimers, a member of The Eastern Star, selected as Turner Co. Chamber of Commerce Citizen Of The Year and was awarded The Exchange Club Golden Deeds Award. Mrs. Barker loved her farm, “Twin Wells” and was known for the love she shared for horses with her husband, son, grandchildren and special friends.
Particular special survivors include her grandsons, Chad (Bridget) Barker, Canton, GA and Seth Barker and the mother of her grandchildren, Melessa Barker Darby both of Woodstock, GA.
The family will receive friends Saturday from five until eight at Perry Funeral Chapel, Ashburn, GA.
