Billy Ray Young

Billy Ray Young, 76, of Cordele passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia Navicent Health.

Billy was born on August 31, 1947 in Ashburn to the late James and Betty Merle McCranie Young. He was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator having worked for Crisp County Public Works. He was a Christian and enjoyed watching church services on TV. He also enjoyed fishing and loved to listen to music and watch westerns. He had a big heart and was always willing to help. His family was most important to him and he loved each of them dearly. 

He is survived by his son, James (Katrina) Young of Ashburn; significant other, Melissa Post of Cordele; sisters, Shirley (Gene) Banks of Cordele, Angie (Tony) Mixon of Cordele, Sue Gilbert of Cordele and Cindy (Larry) Huellet of Cordele; grandchildren, Carolynn (Calvin) Caton, Carlton Young and Casie (Tyler) Ross. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy Wade Young; son, Jeffery Young; sisters, Edith Wright, and Cathy (Orric) Parsons; aunt, Mae (Ralph) Brock.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Perry Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Cedar Creek Cemetery in Cordele. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the hour of services Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Perry Funeral Chapel.
