Gary Wayne Lanneau, 79, of Ashburn passed away Monday, August 29, 2022 at Tift Regional Medical Center.
Gary Wayne was born on June 19, 1943 in Macon, Georgia to the late William Edward and Ester Peacock Lanneau. A lifelong resident of Ashburn, a veteran of the United States Air Force and longtime Farm Bureau Agency Manager for Turner County, Gary Wayne retired in 2009. A lifelong, active member of Ashburn First Baptist Church, he was also a long time member of Turner County Rotary Club and served two terms as Turner County Chamber of Commerce President, as he was passionate about serving his community. He enjoyed the outdoors, and hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest pleasures of life were his children and those beloved grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as “Geeger.”
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anita Sue Sawyer Lanneau of Ashburn; sons, Gary W. “Bo” (Rida) Lanneau of Atlanta and Judge “Jud” William (Toni) Lanneau of Cordele; grandchildren, Judge William Lanneau, Jr., Nicholas Wayne Lanneau, Andrew Sawyer Lanneau, and Garrett Elizabeth Lanneau; brother, Robert E. (Ruth) Lanneau of San Antonio, TX, a sister, Joan L. Whatley of Chula, as well as a special brother-in-law, Buddy Sawyer and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Derrell Whatley.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 3:30PM at Ashburn First Baptist Church. The family will greet friends in the church sanctuary at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Ashburn or a charity of your choice.
