Geraldine “Geri” Loper Phelps

Geraldine “Geri” Loper Phelps, 77, of Ashburn passed away Friday, August 11, 2023 at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Geri was born on January 21, 1946 in Tifton to the late Jack and Lottie Mae Woodard Loper. She was a secretary having worked for Southern Vinyl, USDA and American Living. Her proudest accomplishment was being the best Nana ever to her grandchildren Fru and J.B. Geri also loved gardening, a hobby she shared with her late mother Lottie. She spent several years researching ancestry, visiting gravesites, and connecting with relatives. Geri also loved shopping, whether it was at yard sales, thrift stores, or the mall. Geri was a fan of Elvis and one of her fondest memories was visiting Graceland with her husband Billy. Geri was also a huge fan of Gone With The Wind, so much so that she had an entire room in her home dedicated to memorabilia.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Billy Phelps of Ashburn; daughter, Vicki (Todd) Brown of Ashburn; late daughter, Deann Miller;  son, Richard Wade Miller of Tifton; step-son, Benjamin James of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; sister, Erline L. (Bob) Coates of Flowery Branch; grandchildren, Thomas Jackson Brown and Bridget Belle Brown; sister-in-law, Barbara Loper; nephews, Michael Pate, Jamie Pate, William Loper, Gregory Loper, Joel Loper and Stephen Loper. She is also survived by many other extended family members.

In addition to her parents and daughter, she was preceded in death by her brothers, George Loper and Lamar Loper and a niece, Michelle Loper.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 13, 2023 at the Ashburn First Baptist Church. The family will greet friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the church sanctuary.
