Gertrude Nelson Jones

Gertrude Nelson Jones, 97, of Ashburn passed away March 22, 2023 at Pruitt Healthcare in Ashburn.

Gertrude was born on March 9, 1926 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late John M and Florence Mae Stephens Nelson. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church since 1936. She enjoyed cooking, especially her famous chocolate chip cookies. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting and working in her yard. She was a seamstress for the Manhattan Shirt Company for many years. 

She is survived by her daughter, Diane (Ralph Henry) Denham of Sycamore; sister, Virginia Nelson (Walter) Venable of Fairhope, Alabama; grandchildren, Rusty (Michelle) Gravitt, Clay (Jessica) Gravitt, Clint (Carly) Gravitt; great-grandchildren, Griffin (Kaylee) Gravitt, Garrett Gravitt, Jacob Gravitt, Dylan Gravitt, Kylee Gravitt, Brynlee Gravitt, Ashlee Gravitt and Mary Grace Gravitt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Jones Gravitt and her siblings, John R. Nelson, J. B. Nelson, Tom Nelson, James Nelson, Buck Nelson, Henry Nelson, Eula Belle Kerr, Ruthie Mae Whiddon and Mary Hartman.

A private service will be held at a later date.
