Gloria Faye Adkison

Gloria Faye Adkison, 84, of Heflin, Alabama, passed away Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Cleburne County Nursing Home in Heflin.

Gloria was born on February 15, 1939, in Sycamore to the late Olie Ray “O. R.” and Cleola Smith Lumsden. Gloria was always proud of her farm roots. After getting married she was a dental technician and grocer. Later she became a licensed real estate agent in Florida and Georgia having graduated from the Bert Rodgers School of Real Estate. After graduating from Kennesaw State University School of Nursing, she became a Registered Nurse and worked at Cobb General and Parkway Regional Hospitals.
 
Gloria and Leroy enjoyed traveling and developed a love for Alaska with her returning to see the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race after Leroy's passing. Above everything, she was a devoted wife and mother who cared for her family deeply.

She is survived by her sons, Anthony (Sherri) Adkison of Heflin, Alabama, and Kevin (Debbie) Adkison of Flowery Branch; grandchildren, Kristin (Dustin) Palmer and Alyssa (Cody) Ritter; great-grandchildren, Lylah Johnson and Kiah Ritter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Calvin Adkison; siblings, Rachel Pirtle Simmons, Geneva Lumsden Mauldin and Gladys E. Andrews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Perry Funeral Chapel. Interment will be private. The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, July 28, 2023, at Perry Funeral Chapel.
