James Earl "Jimmy" Carter

President James Earl Carter, Jr., better known as Jimmy, passed away December 29, 2024 at his home in Plains, Georgia.

Jimmy served as Georgia's 76th governor from 1971-1975 and was elected as the 39th President of the United States in 1976. An office he would hold for one term from 1977-1981. He is the only president to hail from Georgia and was also the longest living president and the only one to reach 100 years of age.

As a way to show our sympathy to the Carter Family, Perry Funeral Chapel invites members of our community to come by the funeral home and sign a guestbook. The guestbook will be available in our lobby during normal business hours. Once President Carter is laid to rest, we will send the guestbook to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum where it will be placed. You may also sign the online registry as well. Those entries will be placed inside the guestbook and sent to the library as well.
