John Carlton "Carl" Harris, Jr.

John Carlton “Carl” Harris, Jr., 62, of Sycamore passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 at Tift Regional Hospital.

Carl was born in Tifton on December 27, 1960 to the late John Carlton “J. C.”, Sr. and Betty Powell Harris. He was retired and a member of the House Of Prayer. During his working life, Carl was a truck driver and farmer. He was known for his love of anything to do with racing. Carl loved NASCAR so much that Dale Earnhadt was the reason he and his wife, Sheila, got married. In 1998, Carl told Sheila that she could set a date for their wedding if Earnhardt won the Daytona 500. A few hours later, Earnhardt won the Daytona 500 and Carl and Sheila would spend the next 25 years happily married.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Harris of Sycamore; sons, Justin Harris of Sycamore and Jarrett Harris of Sycamore; sister, Regina (Charles) Fortson of Sycamore; brother, Clay (Tammy) Harris of Sycamore; bonus sisters, Wanda Roberts of Rochelle and Sandy Sumner of Ocilla; bonus brother, Kevin Tripp of Ashburn; mother-in-law, Patsy McCurdy of Ashburn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, June 5, 2023 at Perry Funeral Chapel. The family will greet friends from 1:30 PM until the hour of service at the funeral home. A private, family only interment will follow.
