Laverne Slocumb Wilkerson

Laverne Slocumb Wilkerson, 88, of Rebecca, GA passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family. 

Laverne was born on April 24, 1934, in Ty Ty, GA to the late Marvin and Susie Wilbanks Slocumb. She was a long-time member of Rebecca Baptist Church where she was a very active member of WMU and a song leader for many years. Laverne also served on the Rebecca City Council for several years. She loved her church and community and truly enjoyed caring for people and cooking for them. Laverne was most notably known for her love of the Lord. Many people affectionately called her Mema.

She is survived by her sons, Darrell (Suzanne) Wilkerson of Ashburn and Rickey (Becky) Wilkerson of Rebecca; daughter, Joan Wilkerson Holloway of Rebecca; sisters, Jeannie Wilkerson of Rebecca and Wynell Horner of Brooksville, FL; grandchildren; Ben (Heather) McWhorter, Kimberly (Lance) Swanson, Matthew (Lakyn) Holloway, Courtney (Cole) Sercer, Amber (Barry) Dalrymple, Haley Wilkerson, and Allison (Joe) Barfield; 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. 

In addition to her parents, Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Wilkerson; siblings, Helen Targonski, Phil Slocumb, Raymond Slocumb; and a son-in-law, Stan Holloway. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Rebecca Baptist Church in Rebecca. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, December 29th at Perry Funeral Chapel. 

While flowers will be accepted, the family would appreciate donations to the Hospice of Tiftarea or Rebecca Baptist Church.
