Wayne Thomas Hightower, 75, of Chula passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023 at his residence.
Wayne was born in Tift County on October 10, 1947 to the late Fain Albert and Myrtice Marchant Hightower. He was Postmaster in Ashburn for many years. Wayne was an active member of the Ashburn First Baptist Church. He served his church in many ways including serving as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher and R.A. leader. He also enjoyed deer hunting. He served his country with honor in the United States Army.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 55 years, Melissa Jo Hightower of Chula; daughter, Kippy Jo (Dwane) Lewis of Ashburn; son, Philip (Amy) Hightower of Chula; brothers, Jimmy (Jean) Hightower of Tift County and Terry (Louise) Hightower of Clemson, South Carolina; grandchildren, Lacey Jo (Johnny) Brown and Olivia (Jake) Fountain; great-grandchild, Rosie Jo Fountain; nephews, Keith Hightower, Michael Hightower, Brian Hightower, Mark Hightower and Steve Hightower.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Jerry (Dorothy) Hightower and a nephew, Ken Hightower.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 5, 2023 at the Ashburn First Baptist Church with interment to follow in Eureka Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends Thursday at the church from 1:00 PM until the hour of services.
