William Franklin “Billy” Hobby, 81, of Rebecca passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025 at his residence.
Billy was born on December 4, 1943 in Rebecca to the late Archie Lawson and Frances Hogan Hobby. He was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rebecca where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and a Deacon for many years. He also taught the adult bible study for many years and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Quartet. Billy loved to fish and hunt and was especially fond of turkey hunting. He also served on the Turner County Board of Education. Billy attended the University of Georgia and graduated with honors. Farming was Billy’s passion. He was a 4th generation farmer and was awarded the Turner County Farmer of the Year in 2018. Billy could be found every morning at the local store talking about current events with his friends. Billy loved his family and church dearly and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katie Barnes Hobby of Rebecca; daughters, Sue Ann Hobby (Travis Young) of Telluride, Colorado and Donna Lynn (Cleve) Thompson of Rebecca; son, Harold A. “Skip” (Shanna) Hobby of Rebecca; brother, Wayne (Beverly) Hobby of Ashburn; grandchildren, William Ellis (Kim) Keen; Jessica (Ben) Peavy, Terri (Thad) Clark, Ike Hobby and Sam Hobby; great-grandchildren, Ellie Keen, Levi Peavy, Lannah Keen, Alan Peavy and Jaxon Clark.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda Hobby and brother, Lawson Hobby.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Perry Funeral Chapel.
